Singapore-headquartered IoT solutions firm Sensgreen has successfully installed the first Indoor Air Quality - IAQ monitoring sensors in Dubai to the premises of Kids First Group’s Redwood Montessori Nursery on the Palm.

Using Sensgreen’s IAQ monitoring solutions, Redwood Montessori Nursery took a concrete step to create a safe and healthy indoor education environment for children.

The nursery management uses Sensgreen’s IAQ system to monitor the air quality in the nursery, receive instant notifications in case of critical readings, and take actions based on data to maintain clean air inside the nursery while nurturing a productive environment for children’s development.

The manager of Redwood Montessori Nursery, Reanna Mulholland, said: “We started to hear about indoor air quality more with the rise of the pandemic. We have chosen Sensgreen’s solutions to prevent virus spread and provide the best indoor air quality for our children, affecting cognitive performance. Besides that, IAQ became a regular topic in discussions with the parents, especially when parents decide enrollment to a nursery.”


Indoor air quality has gained more momentum with the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the parents’ awareness of IAQ’s effect on kid’s health is elevated.

According to recent researches, some of the IAQ parameters, especially carbon dioxide (CO2) and particulate matter (PM) are keys to providing safer air, since an increase in the levels of these parameters substantially increase the COVID-19 transmission risk.

In addition to PM and CO2, adjusting humidity levels can also be another line of defense against the pandemic. Studies suggest that higher humidity levels can enhance the body’s ability to fight against infections, and the coronavirus decays faster at close to 60% relative humidity than at other levels.

The transmission is also easier in indoor environments than outdoors, which is another crucial reason to monitor the IAQ of all premises where humans are actively present.

Apart from the risks associated with COVID-19, many scientific findings suggest a relationship between indoor air quality and students’ performance in nurseries and schools.

For example, according to a study on a standardized test, students in the classrooms with higher ventilation rates scored almost 15% higher than the students in the classrooms with lower outdoor air ventilation rates.


In addition to this, in another research focusing on green buildings and the IEQ (indoor environment quality), it was found that in green buildings, the cognitive performance of the occupants was 61% better with the lower CO2 and VOC (volatile organic compounds). Improvements made towards the IAQ improve the concentration and recall ability.

Besides these health benefits of IAQ monitoring in schools, Sensgreen also offers a report generation feature, which provides detailed AI data analysis of the heating and cooling systems to optimize these systems and save very high amounts of otherwise wasted energy.
